Roman courtyards and Interiors

Reproduction of a Roman courtyard (at Corinium)

Peristyle of the House of the Vettius Brothers in Pompeii (as it appears today). There were underground pipes for watering and keeping fountains filled. In some paintings of garden scenes it appears that the shallow raised troughs like the ones shown here served as bird baths.

Reproduction of a Roman kitchen. A small fire on the platform (on the right) would be used for cooking, with pots sitting above the fire on small tripods.

Reproduction of a Roman room with sleeping or dining couch

Sleeping cubicle from the villa of P. Fannius Sinister at Boscoreale

Presently in the Museum of Fine Arts/ New York City
